As always, before we get started with the Mystery Quilt, a few quilting tid-bits.

My friend Dar of Dar's Patchwork Garden has a Quilt of Valor block drive thru the end of the year. Check out her blog for block instructions and where to send your finished blocks.

Now, what you've all been waiting for......

MYSTERY QUILT 2016
A SCRAPPY END!

I'm still falling in love with piecing scrappy quilts! Since this Mystery was suppose to start more in the middle of the year, and life got in the way, I decided to name it "A Scrappy End". We'll be piecing the end of the year in scrappy style.

Making 2 blocks into 1! or 20 into 40! - Month 4

This is our FINAL MONTH. It's time to put it all together, but there’s a twist. You have to decide which final layout you want to use! I’m giving instructions for my first design layout AND my second. Go to the end of this post for even more design layouts!

Your first step this month is choosing a block layout for your quilt center.

A SCRAPPY END - Layout 1

A SCRAPPY END - Layout 2

Now that you've chosen your block layout, it's time to sew the blocks into rows, then the rows into a quilt center. Then add a border or two!

I used 2.5” strips to add a top And bottom border. Then 2.5” strips to add a border to each Side. I wanted my quilt to be Longer than wide, but still keeping in the Quilt of Valor size range, so I added one more 2.5” strip border to the top and bottom.

Layout 2

And, well, because I can't leave well enough alone, here are some more layouts.....

So, there you have it, A Scrappy End. A great way to finish up the year.
Please be sure and send me pictures of your finished quilts.
And don't forget to follow the MQX link above to get registered for classes!

Happy Quilting!
Ann

  3. I followed a link from Kevin's blog. I love this! Been looking for a quilt for a young man, and this is perfect. Wish I had known about it when you first started.

  4. Ann, as usual I like this mystery quilt too. I am knee deep in QOV blocks from the block drive, so no time for another mystery quilt now. Maybe after we get all these QOV blocks put into tops. Thanks much for the shout out for the drive. We are doing great, thanks to you and Kevin's influence and your group in Troy. The Perky Piecers have been major contributors.
